Yes — we service Apple computers across the line, and desktop Macs fail differently than laptops because there is no battery, so the usual culprits are the power supply, fans, or storage. On Intel iMacs the SSD or Fusion Drive (a hybrid that pairs a small SSD with a spinning hard disk) is serviceable, and a failed Fusion Drive is a common cause of an iMac stuck on the loading bar; on Apple Silicon Macs (M-series iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio) the storage is soldered to the board like the MacBooks, so we focus on board-level repair and data recovery. It is worth testing the easy things before assuming the battery, and USB-C MacBooks make that simple: they charge from any of the USB-C ports, so if one port charges and another does not, the fault is that port's board, not the cell. Try a known-good Apple cable and adapter in a different port first, since a frayed cable or a weak third-party charger is a common cause. Open System Settings (or About This Mac) and check Battery: a "Service Recommended" or "Battery is not charging" message points to a worn-out cell that has passed its cycle limit, while "Not Charging" that clears when you switch ports points to the port instead. On MagSafe models, no light or a dim light on the connector is the tell. One thing that has changed: Apple Silicon MacBooks (M1–M4) no longer have a manual SMC reset — simply shutting the Mac fully down and restarting resets the power management that used to need it. If a clean shutdown, a good charger, and a different port still will not charge, we test whether it is the battery, the USB-C charging board, or the logic board and quote before starting.
I spilled water (or coffee) on my MacBook — what should I do right now, and can it be saved?
Act in the first minutes: shut it down immediately (hold the power button), unplug the charger, do not press keys to "test" it, and do not close the lid — trapping liquid against the screen and keyboard is what spreads the damage. Turn it upside down like an open tent so gravity pulls liquid away from the logic board rather than into it, and skip the bag of rice; it does nothing about corrosion already forming inside. Unlike a phone, a MacBook is not sealed — liquid runs straight down through the keyboard membrane onto the logic board, and sugary or salty drinks (coffee, soda, salt water) are the worst because the residue keeps corroding and conducting long after it looks dry, which is how a Mac that seemed fine dies a few days later. The real fix is opening it promptly, disconnecting the battery, and ultrasonically cleaning the corrosion off the board before it eats through the traces or shorts the power rails. Many spilled MacBooks come back fully working, but we cannot promise that before opening it — how far the liquid traveled decides whether it needs just a clean, a single part like the keyboard or trackpad, or board-level work — and a machine brought in the same day recovers far more often than one that sat closed in a bag.
